Disco was becoming more firmly entrenched on the radio waves; meanwhile punk rock was in its nascent stages, a reaction to the mainstream progressive and string-heavy pop that dominated the times.

Ann Berry, who graduated from the University of North Alabama in 1978, is being honored by the State of Alabama with a portrait that was unveiled in the Alabama Department of Archives and History as part of a ceremony today in Montgomery. Berry was sworn in as the 34th secretary of the United States Senate on March 1, 2021; she is the first African American to serve in this position and only the eighth woman to hold the office.
University of North Alabama Senior Caroline Coleman, of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., has been crowned Miss UNA at the Miss UNA program Saturday evening in Norton Auditorium on the UNA campus. Coleman will now move on to compete for the title of Miss Alabama at an event that will take place later this year. Coleman is a psychology major, and she performed a classical opera aria for the talent portion of the program.
Two-time University of North Alabama College of Education and Human Sciences graduate Dr. Prentice T. Chandler has been named Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of Tennessee Southern in Pulaski, Tenn.
